Course Description

What

In this course you will learn international shipping for individuals, small businesses and brands. International shipping is complex but we’ll break it down for you in an easy to understand format and provide the essential information you need to get your packages out of the United States or products imported to the United States from another country.

Whether you ship international packages from your brick and mortar business or you want to learn international shipping with ecommerce such as Shopify, ebay, Amazon, etsy, or with carriers like UPS, FedEx or DHL, there is a process that you should follow no matter what platform you use to ship.

You will learn about international rates and how to forecast what you should charge for international shipping. You’ll learn about the duties and taxes, DDP, DDU and the customs process. You’ll learn how to avoid your customer’s packages being held at customs and the best way to incorporate smooth international transactions so your customers will become loyal return buyers. What should you do about international shipping returns and what about shipping to different countries that have different laws, are questions we’ll answer. In addition, the process to ship international packages such as the terms you need to know, international shipping documentation and international shipping insurance will be covered.

In this course, we will also cover B to B (business to business) international shipping, for example if you need to import from China. We’ll cover International Incoterms, or who is responsible for what during this process, FOB or Free On Board, global forwarding, HTS shipping codes and “final mile” services that get your products to your doorstep.

Why

Don’t let international shipping scare you! Research shows that brands who ship to two or more countries can add 20% or more revenue to their bottom line. There is a giant pool of buyers that live outside of the United States. In fact, more consumers live outside of the U.S. than inside our borders. Learning how to ship internationally is a pathway to more customers and therefore, potentially more profit. Another good reason to learn how to ship internationally, if you don’t learn how to ship internationally, your competition will. We’ll cover the basics of an international shipping strategy and why you should develop an international shipping roadmap.
